Ontario Road Maintenance Contracts

Miller Maintenance Limited offers a variety of road and road maintenance services in different weather and traffic conditions. Miller is the only contractor to have provided maintenance services under area maintenance contracts for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in the ministry`s five regions. Today, services are provided under maintenance contracts in areas such as northeastern Ontario (Temagami-New Liskeard-Cochrane-Hearst); and south-central Ontario, from Fort Erie to Newtonville to Toronto. This includes significant sections of Highways 401, 404 and 400 as well as the QEW. Ontario`s model road maintenance contracts were raised as an issue that ORBA members want to explore and contribute to. This contribution comes at the right time, as the Department of Transportation (MTO) has been tasked with improving the execution of its road maintenance contracts and is currently working on the development of a new system. At the onset of a winter storm, maintenance crews deploy their equipment within 30 minutes on ploughing, salt and sand roads. They are active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to clear highways. After a storm, maintenance crews continue to work to clear roads and perform clean-up and repair work. In Ottawa, Ferrovial Services will maintain 1,844 kilometres of roads, including winter road service, such as operating a fleet of more than 70 snowplows.B. In York, in addition to the ongoing maintenance of a 900-kilometre road network, it will operate more than 50 snowplows.

The roads covered by these contracts are located near the 407 ETR, operated by Cintra, Ferrovial`s toll road subsidiary, a concession that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. These new contracts strengthen Ferrovial Services` position as a leading service provider to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. By the end of 2019, the company will be responsible for the maintenance of more than 4,600 kilometres of roads in Ontario. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has awarded Ferrovial Services two contracts to provide operations and maintenance services on the Ottawa and York (Greater Toronto) roads for a total value of €200 million. Pre-wet salt is normal road salt with an anti-icing liquid before being distributed on the highway. There are 153 road weather information stations in Ontario that monitor current conditions and provide site-specific forecasts.
